Nepal has a population of 30 Million, and last-mile delivery of healthcare in the country has always been a challenge. Nearly 72% of the population lives in rural areas and has access to only about 25% of the healthcare infrastructure.

Why Health and Hygiene?

Designed to tackle the pressing issue of childhood malnourishment in Nepal. With a comprehensive and holistic approach, the project aims to alleviate the devastating effects of malnutrition and create a sustainable future for children. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal’s leading causes of death among children under age five are linked to acute malnutrition and inappropriate infant and young child feeding practices. In Nepal, although sanitation coverage has improved to around 94.5%, only 61% of the population had access to safely managed sanitation facilities in 2019, falling short of the SDG 6 target of 69.3%.

What do we do?

By combining nutritional interventions, education, and community engagement, the project strives to break the cycle of malnourishment and ensure every child has access to a healthy and nourishing diet. Also, we will focus on ensuring the availability of safe drinking water and eliminating open defecation. In response to these issues, KITES is working to provide quality education for children from the Chepang community by offering them accommodation, study materials, tuition, and other academic necessities. Also rather than providing awareness classes, KITES focuses on creating opportunities for the youth through upskilling and volunteer-based activities.
